Liverpool beat Brighton 2-0 at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday 25 October. The hosts scored twice in four minutes before half-time and protected that advantage after the break. Sky Sports’ match report and The Guardian’s report confirm the result and scoring sequence.
Brighton chances, Liverpool goals
Brighton had the first clear opening. Yasin Ayari sent a chance over the bar in the 14th minute, then Florian Wirtz’s shot deflected off Pascal Groß and into the net three minutes later. The goal was recorded as a Groß own goal. Alexander Isak doubled Liverpool’s lead in the 21st minute, turning in Bradley Barcola’s delivery. Sky lists the timings; the Guardian also describes Ayari’s missed chance and both Liverpool goals.
Ayari later struck the post, but Brighton were unable to reduce the two-goal deficit. Liverpool’s early scoring burst meant that the visitors needed more than territorial pressure to recover: they had to turn their chances into goals while avoiding further damage at the other end.
Liverpool hold the lead
Brighton had more of the ball after the interval but did not convert that possession into a goal. Sky reported the visitors finished with 64 per cent possession and one shot on target. Liverpool therefore spent much of the match defending a lead rather than chasing an equaliser. The possession figures show Brighton’s share of the ball, but the single shot on target also illustrates the limited return from that control.
Liverpool also had chances to add to its lead. Sky reports that Bart Verbruggen saved efforts from Ronald Araújo and Cody Gakpo, while the Guardian notes the hosts wasted several counter-attacks. Isak’s finish also extended his run of scoring in three consecutive Premier League games, according to Sky. Brighton arrived after four straight league wins, the Guardian reported, but left Anfield without adding to that sequence. Liverpool’s quick double before half-time remained the difference, with the final score 2-0 at Anfield.
